Iran Denies Negotiations, Says Trump Only Wants to "Calm" US Markets
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has denied that his country is negotiating with the United States and described the reports as “fake news” intended to manipulate the oil and financial markets.
“There are no negotiations underway with the United States. Those fake news reports are meant to manipulate the financial and oil markets and to escape the chaos that has trapped the US and Israel,” Ghalibaf said via social media platform X on Monday.
Ghalibaf added that the Iranian people demand “full and remorse-inducing” punishment for the aggressors, while all officials stand firmly in support of the nation’s leader and people until the war’s objectives are achieved.
Previously, US President Donald Trump stated that he had ordered a delay of all attacks on power generation and energy infrastructure for the next five days.
Trump explained that this was because dialogue with Tehran over the past two days had been “very good and productive”.
Tensions in the Persian Gulf region have escalated since Israel and the US launched joint attacks against Iran on 28 February, which so far have reportedly killed around 1,340 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran subsequently retaliated against the military aggression by launching drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
Those Iranian military strikes have caused casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and international aviation.
