Iran Denies Final Agreement with US on Ceasefire
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has asserted that no final decision has been made regarding a potential agreement with the United States. He emphasised that reports claiming a deal has been reached remain speculative and that no single issue has been definitively resolved.
Baghaei stated that Iran has not yet arrived at a final position or decisive conclusion on the proposed agreement during the latest round of discussions. He noted that while a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) is nearly complete, the main remaining obstacle is what he described as contradictory statements and constantly shifting attitudes from the US side.
Baghaei explained that Iran’s decision-making mechanism is very clear and requires the relevant authorities to reach a final conclusion on every detail of the proposed understanding before an agreement can be ratified.
He added that Qatar and Pakistan have played an active mediation role throughout the process, noting that most of the agreement’s text has actually reached an advanced drafting stage. Nevertheless, he lamented the US’s tendency to continuously alter its position during the negotiations.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Tehran has shown absolutely no leniency or flexibility regarding its red lines and the country’s non-negotiable core principles. According to Baghaei, US officials attempted to introduce additional issues in recent talks, but Iran demonstrated that it will not bow to pressure or sacrifice its core positions.
Baghaei also accused Washington of trying to shape public opinion as if Iran had been swayed by military threats and pressure, a narrative he flatly rejected.
This firm statement from Tehran came after US President Donald Trump claimed that Washington had achieved a “great settlement” with Iran. Trump even hinted that the deal could be signed in Europe within days once the necessary documents are finalised.
