Iran Conflict Intensifies: Singapore Airlines Cancels Flights, Malaysia Diverts Routes
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot have cancelled six flights since 28 February through 1 March 2026 following US and Israeli military strikes against targets in Iran.
Singapore Airlines reported four flight cancellations over the two-day period. The affected routes are SQ494 (Singapore–Dubai) and SQ495 (Dubai–Singapore), both scheduled to operate on 28 February and 1 March 2026 respectively. Additionally, two Scoot flights, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, were cancelled on 28 February: TR596 (Singapore–Jeddah) and TR597 (Jeddah–Singapore).
The airline stated it will continue monitoring the Middle East situation and adjust flight routes as necessary. Malaysia Airlines likewise reported disruptions to two Middle Eastern-bound flights from Kuala Lumpur on 27 February 2026. Flight MH160 bound for Doha returned to Kuala Lumpur, whilst MH156 destined for Jeddah was diverted to Chennai, India, before eventually returning to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
According to reports from Malaysian news agency Bernama cited by The Straits Times, the diversions were executed in accordance with regional conflict avoidance protocols. The airline has assisted affected passengers with flight rearrangements and hotel accommodation where necessary.
Several global carriers, including Lufthansa and Air France, have also reportedly suspended or cancelled flights to various Middle East destinations. The Singapore government has issued advisory warnings through its embassies in the Middle East, urging citizens to remain vigilant and monitor the developing regional security situation amid heightened tensions.
