Iran Claims Attack on US Airbase
Iran-US tensions have escalated once again. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have attacked a US airbase on Thursday (28 May), hours after US airstrikes targeted an area near Bandar Abbas Airport.
“The US military’s morning aggression against locations near Bandar Abbas Airport using aerial projectiles has resulted in the US airbase serving as the source of the attack being struck at 04:50 local time (0120 GMT),” the IRGC stated, according to IRIB, as reported by DetikNews on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
The IRGC did not disclose the location of the attacked US airbase. However, tensions in the region intensified immediately after Kuwait reported being hit by missile and drone attacks on Thursday morning local time.
The Kuwaiti military stated on social media platform X: “Kuwait’s air defence systems are currently facing enemy missile and drone attacks” following new US strikes against Iran.
Tensions also flared in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran authorities claimed to have fired warning shots at several vessels allegedly passing without coordination.
“Four vessels attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf without coordinating with the security forces responsible for the strait,” according to Iranian government-affiliated media cited by CNN International on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
“They were warned, and after ignoring the warning, warning shots were fired, forcing them to turn back,” the report added.
Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC, reported that the IRGC Navy fired warning shots at an “American oil tanker” to compel it to reverse course.
