Jakarta – Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry continues to monitor the security situation in Iran and has urged Indonesian nationals to remain calm, increase vigilance, follow local regulations, and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has confirmed that armed aerial attacks occurred in several cities around 9:45 local time. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated this in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Mewengkang said the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran is focusing on intensive communication with Indonesian nationals in Iran and has issued the latest circular containing recommendations and concrete measures to ensure their safety and security.

“We will continue to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the security situation and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Indonesian nationals,” said Mewengkang.

She also stated that in emergency situations, Indonesian nationals can immediately contact the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran’s hotline at +98 9914668845 / +98 902 466 8889, or the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s Protection of Indonesian Nationals Directorate hotline at +62 812-9007-0027.

Earlier on Saturday (28 February), media reported that Israel and the United States had launched attacks against Iran. The attack marks the second attack by US President Donald Trump following the first attack on Iran in June 2025.

Trump stated that US forces had launched a large-scale military operation in Iran to protect American citizens by eliminating what he described as threats from Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons development.

The United States and Iran have conducted three rounds of indirect negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme, mediated by Oman.

The first and second rounds of negotiations were held earlier this month in Muscat and Geneva, focusing on limiting uranium enrichment and supplies in exchange for sanctions relief. The third round took place on Thursday (26 February) in Geneva.

On Friday (27 February), Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi stated that the US-Iran nuclear negotiations had agreed on a policy of no accumulation of enriched uranium, with stock reductions to the lowest level and conversion to permanent fuel under full verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
