JAKARTA – The Indonesian Government has stated that President Prabowo Subianto is willing to serve as a mediator between the United States and Iran.

This official statement follows joint military strikes launched by US and Israeli forces against several regions in Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), Indonesia has urged all parties to prioritise diplomatic channels.

“Indonesia calls upon all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X (formerly Twitter).

“The Indonesian Government expresses its readiness to facilitate dialogue in order to restore a conducive security environment. If agreed upon by both parties, the Indonesian President is prepared to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” the statement added.

However, Iran holds the view that to date, no mediation or negotiations have had a significant impact.

“We believe that at present, there are no negotiations and talks with the American Government that will be useful, because they are not bound by and do not comply with any outcomes,” stated Boroujerdi during a press conference in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Nevertheless, Boroujerdi expressed hope that Islamic nations would regard the US and Israeli attacks on Iran as an illegal act and support Iran by issuing strong condemnations.

Additionally, he hoped that Islamic nations would support Iran through international organisational mechanisms, such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations (UN).

Boroujerdi stated that the US and Israel do not respect diplomacy and negotiations.

“Once again it has been proven that whilst we are at the negotiating table, they carry out attacks against Iran,” he said.

“This can be witnessed or conveyed also by the Foreign Minister of Oman, a neutral mediator, who has stated that negotiations have reached a point of clarity,” he added.

For Boroujerdi, the actions of Israel and the United States violate Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against other states.
