Iran and Oman discuss Strait of Hormuz management
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed solidarity with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi on Friday regarding US threats concerning the Strait of Hormuz, adding that both sides discussed future management of the strait.
“In a highly productive conversation with Foreign Minister [Badr al-Busaidi], I expressed Iran’s solidarity with Oman in the face of any threats. We discussed Hormuz and its future management in line with our sovereign responsibilities and international law,” Araghchi wrote on X.
He also stressed that both sides called for consultations with all neighbouring countries.
Previously, on Wednesday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Oman that the US would pursue anyone facilitating Iran’s transit fees through the Strait of Hormuz, while US President Donald Trump threatened to “blow up” Oman if it attempted to take control of the strait.
The United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran on 28 February. Iran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US bases in Gulf states.
On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire. Currently, both sides are working on a memorandum of understanding to fully halt hostilities.
