iPhone Set for Drastic Change with Sudden Introduction of Ads
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The iPhone is set to undergo a drastic change with the introduction of advertisements into Apple’s Maps service. This appears to be the company’s way of increasing revenue.
Paid advertisements will begin to be introduced for users in the United States (US) and Canada in the middle of this year. The ads will be displayed above organic search results, according to Reuters on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Advertisers will also be able to claim physical locations with a series of business tools. Apple has stated that changes to its tools will begin next month.
User security is assured to remain intact. Apple ensures that advertisements in the Maps service will maintain privacy controls.
Furthermore, users’ locations and the ads they view and interact with will not be linked to their Apple accounts.
Apple emphasises that there will be no collection or storage of personal data by the company, but it will remain on the user’s device. User data will also not be shared with third parties.
Reuters reports that Apple did not specify how much revenue is expected from the new service. There is also no information on the number of users who regularly use Apple Maps.
Meanwhile, according to D.A Davidson analyst Gil Luria, the new service could provide an additional opportunity for Apple’s services business. He added that advertisements in Apple Maps could serve as another layer of growth besides the company’s services business.
“The introduction of advertisements in Apple Maps could be an additional opportunity for Apple’s services business,” he explained.
“Apple derives most of its growth and profit from the services business, and this could be another addition to that growth,” he added.
Apple is also reportedly set to update its business tools. These tools will be enhanced to set up and distribute Apple devices to employees without specialised expertise.
The new tool will be offered for free, unlike the previous paid version.
