IOM requests increased security

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Executives with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Medan have called on police to step up security after a group of youths ransacked their office on Wednesday. The increased security was necessary to allow IOM employees to return to work, said the head of IOM's Medan office Jose Al Manashe.

Responding to the request, visiting chief of Medan Police Sr. Comr. Irawan Dahlan, said police would deploy personnel to safeguard the office. Police who visited the office on Friday said they had so far arrested one suspect in the case and tracked down five others.

The group of youths ransacked the office after the IOM rejected the group's request to be recruited as an IOM partner in transporting food aid to Aceh. -- JP
