Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Business circles expressed hope that the Aceh Business Summit organized by the regional government would lead to concrete actions.

"We hope our meeting would not be a mare ceremonial event but must give birth to a concrete action by the government to invite investors into Aceh," Fakhrizal Murphy, a businessman who attended the event, said.

Fakhrizal, who is also chairman of the Aceh branch of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs (HIPMI), said that the summit which was attended by diplomats and foreign and domestic businesses would be meaningless if it was limited to ceremonial event.

Therefore, the local government should make concrete efforts and develop communications with various sides, particularly with investors attending the summit.

"The government must work hard to convince investors and representatives of friendly countries so that they would really make investment in Aceh," Fakhrizal said.

He said that working groups had been set up to hold in-depth discussions on various investment opportunities in Aceh, a province with a population of about 4.6 million.

During the forum, cooperation groups were set up to discuss the business opportunities in Aceh and their focus was aimed at mining, tourism, plantation and banking sector, he said.

A working group on accelerating investment in Aceh has also been set up.

The Aceh Business Summit was held to follow up the visit of Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf and officials of the Aceh office of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to the United States in 2007. (*)
