Jakarta - Deputy for Investment Planning at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Dedi Latip revealed that investors are afraid to invest in Indonesia due to disruptions caused by thuggery. He discovered this after meeting with a number of investors planning to invest in Indonesia.

"We feel it ourselves when we meet with investors. They are already frightened just by being harassed by thugs," he said at the detikcom Regional Summit 2025, REBANA Area, on Monday (19/5/2025).

Additionally, Dedi said another challenge for investment in Indonesia relates to licensing issues, which investors consider overly convoluted.

Dedi said the government is currently focused on reforming various existing regulations to boost investment in Indonesia. However, he noted that addressing these challenges also requires cooperation from regional governments to attract investors.

"Let us work together to help investors, facilitate investors, and protect investors in their efforts to invest. They need to be confident and certain about what we offer — regarding licensing, requirements and conditions, and everything we do to ensure investment flows in," he said.

Dedi added that if the current challenges can be properly resolved, significant investment will flow into Indonesia. This investment would in turn benefit the Indonesian economy.

"Hopefully from their investment, there will be a positive multiplier effect for Indonesia," he said.
