Investment Ministry Urges All Parties to Safeguard Indonesia's Investment Climate
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has called on all parties to help maintain Indonesia's investment climate.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu said the government is committed to ensuring smooth investment flows in support of national industrial downstreaming efforts.
"The state must provide guarantees, both domestically and internationally, for investments in our country, so that the investment climate remains conducive and sustainable," he said, as quoted on Thursday (15/5/2025).
Regarding reports of a party demanding Rp5 trillion worth of project allocations without a tender process in Cilegon, Todotua said the case would be handled by the police through the Banten Regional Police.
He stated that the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, in its capacity as chair of the investment acceleration task force, would take swift and concrete steps to ensure the smooth progress of investment projects.
"The Banten Provincial Police will carry out the investigation process, and the outcome falls within the domain of law enforcement. Going forward, however, we want to create a deterrent effect against improper actions in order to safeguard our country's investment climate," he said.
To prevent similar incidents from recurring, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM will strengthen oversight of business partnership arrangements. Currently, partnerships between investors and local MSMEs are regulated under Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Regulation 1/2022.
Meanwhile, Banten Regional Police Chief Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto affirmed that the regional police would conduct preliminary and full investigations into the extortion case to establish legal certainty for business operators.
"We will deploy a team to conduct an investigation. If there are indications of criminal activity, especially as this disrupts the investment climate in this country, we will pursue both preliminary and full investigations and process the matter through legal channels," he said.
