Investment Ministry Signs MoU with Batam to Establish BKPM Desk and Boost Investment Climate
JAKARTA — Investment and Downstream Industries Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan P Roeslani signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad at the Investment Ministry office in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/6/2025).
The memorandum concerns the development of investment in Batam's free trade and free port zone by establishing a BKPM desk in the area.
Minister Rosan said the MoU signed on Tuesday aims to improve the investment climate in Batam, making it more transparent and efficient.
"We share a commitment because we recognise Batam's extremely important and strategic role, both geographically and economically, as well as being the second-largest entry point in Indonesia," Rosan said after the signing ceremony.
"Given this potential, there is much we can collaborate on. With the BKPM desk placed in Batam, this will certainly accelerate investment licensing," he continued.
According to Rosan, when investors intend to invest capital, they typically communicate first with the Investment Ministry/BKPM. From there, investors are directed to potential regions.
In Batam's case, with a BKPM desk stationed directly in the area, licensing and investment realisation can become significantly more efficient.
"This will also have a multiplier effect in terms of the economy, job creation, and the improvement of human resources, particularly in Batam," Rosan added.
Meanwhile, Batam Mayor Amsakar Ahmad said that upon first taking office as regional head, he had already gathered investors in his area.
