Investigation launched into illegal medical waste dumping in West Bandung; Environmental agency confirms indicators present
The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Cimahi City is conducting an investigation into the discovery of accumulated medical waste in Cileunca Village, RT 05/10, Tenjolaut Village, Cikalowetan District, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java. Initial findings indicate that the medical waste likely originated from a hospital in Cimahi City.
The waste, classified as hazardous and toxic material (B3), contained various medical equipment including syringes, gloves, masks, and discarded medication boxes. Several documents found among the waste bearing the letterhead of a hospital in Cimahi City have prompted suspicions that the waste originates from a healthcare facility in the area.
“Yes, according to the initial report, there is an indication that this waste originates from a hospital in Cimahi. However, this remains a suspicion based on the type of waste found,” said Ibrahim Adjie, Head of the Environmental Agency of West Bandung Regency, when confirmed on Thursday (5 March 2026).
The agency will conduct further investigation by deploying Environmental Protection and Management Officers (PPLH). “We will deploy Environmental Protection and Management Officers to verify the source of the waste and trace the responsible transporter,” he stated.
Ibrahim emphasised that medical waste is classified as hazardous material (B3) whose management is strictly regulated and must not be disposed of improperly. Such waste must undergo processing procedures in accordance with regulations. “If it was truly disposed of in this manner, this is clearly a violation,” he said.
