Introducing Gropetian Edu Park, an educational open space in West Jakarta
West Jakarta’s official opening of Gropetian Edu Park on Jalan Letjen S. Parman, Tomang, Grogol Petamburan, on Thursday, has established the site as an educational public open space in West Jakarta. ‘We appreciate the efforts of the Grogol Petamburan sub-district and all its staff. The synergy with all related sections in the district has enabled the creation of a public space that is both open and educational,’ said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah after the inauguration.
Previously, the site was a neglected area frequently used as an illegal car park. Now, the area has been redesigned and repurposed as a public space for community interaction and as an educational facility. In addition to serving as a gathering place, Gropetian Edu Park includes facilities such as an urban farming garden, a nutrition pond, and a chicken-raising area. ‘It can also function as a very comfortable meeting space. This park also sends a positive message that with creativity, the area can be well designed,’ she said.
Moreover, Iin assessed that the educational park has shown very good results as evidence of community innovation and creativity. ‘We hope the utilisation of Gropetian Edu Park will not be limited to early childhood and mothers. The park can be used by various segments of society, from children and youth to the elderly,’ she added.
In the same venue, Grogol Petamburan Sub-district head Raditian Ramajaya said the redesign was undertaken as a form of innovation in independently leveraging resources. Not only physical development, Raditian explained that all district SKPDs have prepared a range of programmes to be integrated with activities at Gropetian Edu Park, such as health checks from the Puskesmas and fire-safety education from the district’s Gulkarmat Sub-unit.
Although officially opened to the public, access remains limited to the Early Childhood Education community (PAUD). Therefore, all PAUD institutions in the Grogol Petamburan district will be invited in turn to Gropetian Edu Park. ‘We are also pursuing collaborations with partners so that every child who visits can be provided with snacks, vitamins, and other items,’ he added.
