Interpol asked to fetch George
SEMARANG, Central Java: Police say they plan to ask for Interpol assistance in bringing in scholar George Aditjondro from Australia to answer charges of slander.
Lt. Col. Bardja, the spokesman for the Central Java Police, said the decision was made after George, who is currently doing research at Murdoch University in Perth, ignored two summons to help with the police investigation.
Bardja said the matter has now been taken over by the National Police in Jakarta who will contact Interpol.
George is also a staff lecturer at the Satya Wacana Christian University in Salatiga, Central Java.
When contacted by phone in Perth yesterday, George said that he is bound by a contract with the university's Asian Research Center until July, after which he has a commitment to serve as a lecturer at the same college until December. (har/emb)
