Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission IX, Yahya Zaini, has highlighted the case of the death of internship doctor dr Myta Aprilia Azmi (MAA) in Jambi. Yahya stated that his side will summon the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to seek an explanation regarding the case.

“Yes, in the upcoming session (we will summon Kemenkes). We will discuss the matter with Kemenkes,” Yahya told reporters on Friday (8/5/2026).

Yahya believes a comprehensive evaluation of the internship doctor working system is necessary, particularly regarding working hours that often exceed reasonable limits.

“A comprehensive evaluation of the maximum working hours for internship doctors at 40 hours/week. This is in line with WHO standards that to maintain the health and quality of service from medical personnel, the working hours for doctors should be 40-48 hours/week,” said Yahya.

“This is important to do because in practice, there are internship doctors who work beyond the maximum working hours limit,” he added.

Yahya also proposed the implementation of digital attendance. According to him, this is to monitor the working hours of internship doctors in the field.

“It is also necessary to consider creating digital attendance to monitor those working hours,” he said.

In addition, Yahya emphasised the importance of supervision by mentoring doctors for internship doctors to prevent malpractice. He also proposed additional incentives from local governments, including employment social security guarantees.

“Internship doctors’ rights to get leave without deduction if there is force majeure, such as illness or the death of an immediate family member,” he said.

This Golkar politician also proposed that prospective internship doctor participants undergo health examinations before starting duties. According to him, this step is important to know the health condition of the participants.

“It is necessary to conduct a medical check-up for prospective internship doctor participants to determine the health status of the internship doctors so that workplace treatment adjustments can be made,” he stated.

The death of dr Myta Aprilia Azmi was revealed in the Kemenkes investigation. Acting Inspector General Rudi Supriatna Nata Supatra emphasised indications of excessive working hours.

Organic doctors who should have supervised the interns during duty covered up the facts. There was evidence of an attempt to manipulate the attendance schedule from the presence of internship participants when the investigation was to be conducted.

Kemenkes found that the scenario was created to create a perception of relatively normal duty schedules. When further confirmed to dr J, the person in question did it with various excuses. One of them claimed not to know the guidelines for working hours limits.

The schedule manipulation was made to appear perfect by forcing signatures from several internship participants to imply joint agreement.

“In practice, participants usually go home after 2 pm, even some until 4 pm,” highlighted Rudi in a press conference at the Kemenkes building as reported by detikHealth on Thursday (7/5).
