International Women's Day: PPPA Minister says the PPRT Bill will continue to be pushed forward
On International Women’s Day, observed on 8 March, PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi said it should remind stakeholders to keep advancing the proposed Law on Protection for Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT). She emphasised that protections for domestic workers—predominantly women and in vulnerable positions—are essential. ‘Equality is not only a goal but the foundation of national progress. Today is a reminder to dismantle structural barriers that bind women, especially domestic workers,’ she said in Jakarta. She noted that domestic workers are the main pillars of family welfare and drivers of the economy, yet their work remains inadequately protected by the employment law system. The government considers domestic workers entitled to protection, respect, and recognition of their human dignity, and efforts to deliver regulations that provide protection are important in strengthening the nation’s commitment to humane and civil values as reflected in Pancasila. The RUU PPRT has undergone extensive public discussion and legislative processes. The bill is expected to provide legal certainty regarding the relationship in the domestic sector, including rights and obligations of workers and employers, protection from violence and exploitation, and respect for conditions that are fair and humane.
