InterContinental to boost China unit
SHANGHAI: InterContinental Hotels Group, the world's second largest hotel operator, plans to increase its presence in China two-fold over the next three years, the Shanghai Daily reported Friday.
The newspaper quoted David Travers, general manager of the InterContinental Pudong Shanghai, as saying that the company wants to expand its portfolio on the mainland in the next three years to 80 hotels from the current 41.
InterContinental owns several brands including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.
Travers said the company will open two new Intercontinental hotels in Shanghai in the next two years and also open its first Holiday Inn in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia.
"We see great potential in the country's mid-level market," Travers said. "That is why we will devote so much effort to establish Holiday Inn hotels in China's secondary cities in the near future." -- AFP
