Intention for Zakat al-Fitr for One's Self: Arabic, Latin, Meaning, and Amounts in 2026
Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory act of worship for every Muslim who is free and possesses wealth in excess of their needs at the end of Ramadan. This worship purifies the soul from the blemishes of fasting and serves as a form of social concern so that the entire Muslim community can celebrate Eid al-Fitr with joy.
For those who will fulfil this obligation independently, understanding the niat for Zakat al-Fitr for oneself is a crucial first step to ensure the act is valid according to Islamic law.
Intention is a cornerstone of worship. Although the intention may reside in the heart, reciting it aloud is strongly recommended to strengthen resolve when handing zakat to an amil zakat.
Arabic text:
نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُخْرِجَ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ عَنْ نَفْسِيْ فَرْضًا لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى
Latin text:
Nawaitu an ukhrija zakaatal fithri ’an nafsii fardhan lillaahi ta’aalaa.
Meaning: “I intend to give Zakat al-Fitr for myself, as an obligation to Allah Ta’ala.”
Based on the Decision of the Chair of BAZNAS RI Number 14 of 2026, there are two options for paying Zakat al-Fitr in Indonesia:
Note: The amount of cash may vary by region in line with local rice prices. Be sure to check the provisions of BAZNAS in your area.
A person is obliged to pay Zakat al-Fitr if they meet the following criteria: [the article does not list them].
To gain merit, note the following timing for payment: [not specified].
After paying zakat, it is sunnah to recite the following supplication: “Rabbanaa taqabbal minnaa, innaka antas samii’ul ’aliim.” Meaning: “Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” (Qur’an, Al-Baqarah: 127).
Not obligatory. Intention in the heart using Indonesian or a local language is valid, but reciting the Arabic text is Sunnah.
It is permissible provided the zakat is distributed through official amil zakat institutions. The intention is made at the time of the payment process.
Carrying out Zakat al-Fitr is one of the best ways to conclude Ramadan worship. With a sincere intention, may Allah, the Almighty, purify our wealth and souls.
