Ahead of the homecoming rush, Hardiyanto Kenneth, a Jakarta DPRD member from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction, conducted a surprise inspection at Kalideres Terminal in West Jakarta to ensure public transport services are adequately prepared for the incoming crowds.

He emphasised that the inspection aimed to directly assess the terminal’s facility conditions whilst ensuring travellers receive proper, safe, and comfortable services.

“Overall, the terminal’s operations are running fairly well. Key facilities such as waiting areas, ticket counters, departure and arrival zones, and information boards are available and functional,” he told journalists at Kalideres Terminal on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

However, Kenneth noted that several matters require immediate attention. One concern involves facility cleanliness, particularly toilets and certain sections of the waiting area that fall short of optimal standards.

“We are requesting that the Kalideres terminal management increase cleaning frequency and ensure cleaning staff are available 24 hours, considering passenger numbers will increase significantly,” stated the Commission C member of the Jakarta DPRD.

Kenneth also highlighted the lack of air conditioning facilities in the passenger waiting areas. He assessed that conditions at Kalideres Terminal’s waiting room remain uncomfortable, especially amid the hot weather approaching Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

“The weather has indeed been quite scorching recently. This will be a concern for us regarding air conditioning requirements going forward,” he said.

Additionally, Kenneth identified potential passenger congestion at several points, such as boarding areas and ticket counters. He advocated for more orderly queue management and additional staff to manage crowding.

Furthermore, Kenneth disclosed that there are opportunities to renovate Kalideres Terminal as an effort to improve public transport service quality, particularly in response to the surge in passenger numbers during the homecoming and return periods.

However, he could not confirm the timing for such renovations. According to him, this proposal will be discussed further in Jakarta DPRD sessions.

“This terminal is indeed quite old and certainly deserves renovation to become better. This will be material for our future evaluation. Kalideres Terminal has a strategic role as one of the main transport hubs in West Jakarta, so it needs to be upgraded to become more representative, modern, and comfortable for the public,” said the chairman of IKAL (Alumni Association of the Indonesian Defense Institute) PPRA Class LXII.

From a security standpoint, Kenneth appreciated the presence of joint security personnel comprising police, the Transportation Department, and health workers. Nevertheless, he continued to advocate for strengthened surveillance to prevent ticket scalping practices and potential criminal activities.

“We also request that all bus fleets be ensured roadworthy through routine inspections for passenger safety,” he added.

During the inspection, Kenneth engaged in dialogue with several travellers. From these conversations, he received various input, ranging from departure schedule certainty to improved waiting area comfort and baggage security.

Travellers also hoped for clearer and more accessible information dissemination, both through digital boards and on-site personnel.

Kenneth stressed that the homecoming season is a critical moment requiring maximum preparedness from all parties. Therefore, he requested that the Jakarta Transportation Department and terminal management immediately conduct comprehensive evaluations.

“Cross-sector coordination must be strengthened so that the homecoming traffic can proceed smoothly and the public feels safe and comfortable,” said the head of the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BAGUNA) of the Jakarta PDI Perjuangan regional board.

He also advised travellers to maintain order, follow officer instructions, and ensure their health condition before travelling.

Going forward, as a Jakarta DPRD member, he remains committed to continuously monitoring improvements in public service quality, particularly in the transport sector.

“Kalideres Terminal must become a modern, comfortable, and people-centred transport hub,” he concluded.
