Imagine boarding a cruise ship that feels like a floating theme park. That is the first impression upon entering Disney Adventure, the newest cruise ship operated by Disney Cruise Line (DCL), which will begin sailing from Singapore in March 2026 following three years of development.

With a capacity of up to 6,700 passengers, Disney Adventure features more than 20 dining options, eight live performances, a roller coaster ride, and fireworks displays at sea. Unlike most cruise ships offering itineraries with stops at multiple ports, Disney Adventure is designed as a destination unto itself, with no port calls during voyages. This concept centres the entire holiday experience aboard the ship, encompassing entertainment, dining, and Disney and Marvel-themed attractions.

Ahead of its maiden voyage, journalists, including from The Straits Times, were invited on a four-night preview sailing to experience the ship’s facilities firsthand.

Disney Adventure has been specifically designed with Asian market preferences in mind, evident in its culinary selections, design elements, and entertainment offerings. Asian menus, including kebabs, curries, and various noodle dishes, are available across multiple restaurants. Additionally, decorative elements feature local Singaporean touches, including the national flower motif of Vanda Miss Joaquim combined with Disney characters at the ship’s stern.

Bruce Vaughn, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, stated that Disney Adventure’s design was inspired by the romance of 1930s ocean travel. “The elegant colour palette, circular windows, ship’s funnels, and hull shape were designed to evoke the romantic atmosphere of classical sea voyages,” Vaughn said.

One of the most striking areas is Marvel Landing on the upper deck. This open-air zone features decorations of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) displayed on towering walls. The area includes three major attractions: Pym Quantum Racers, Groot Galaxy Spin, and Ironcycle Test Run.

Pym Quantum Racers is a Marvel-themed bumper car ride, whilst Groot Galaxy Spin takes passengers on a spinning miniature spacecraft that moves up and down around a central pole. The main draw is Ironcycle Test Run, the longest roller coaster ever built on a cruise ship, accessible to guests between 120 cm and 195 cm in height.

The atmosphere is enhanced by superhero-themed background music throughout the area, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of action film scenes for Marvel enthusiasts.

Moving beyond the superhero world, guests can enter San Fransokyo Street, an indoor area inspired by the animated film “Big Hero 6”. This zone presents a futuristic cityscape with cyberpunk aesthetics and colourful neon lighting. A large replica of a subway map inspired by the San Francisco metro system greets visitors at the entrance.

The area maintains a busy, competitive atmosphere as guests undertake game missions. Japanese-themed shops complement the setting, including a ramen shop decorated with oversized noodle bowls. Visual technology creates shadows of workers appearing to move behind shop windows, evoking a lively city atmosphere. Baymax-shaped lanterns from “Big Hero 6” hang above the area. Behind some shops lies access to exclusive youth and teenage clubs named Vibe and Edge.

If Marvel Landing provides theme park sensations, the Disney Imagination Garden serves as the ship’s central activity hub. This open-air space, designed to resemble a valley with green gardens and a large performance stage, features a vertical open space that makes the area feel more expansive and dramatic compared to other Disney cruise ships.

The Garden Stage, the main performance venue, sits within the garden. Nearby stands a three-storey storybook-style castle overlooking the gardens and bar. Observant visitors can spot various hidden Disney characters among tree decorations, such as the Cheshire Cat from “Alice in Wonderland” and Mushu from “Mulan”. Several food kiosks operate in this area, including Mowgli’s Eatery serving Indian cuisine and Gramma Tala’s Kitchen offering Asian and Pacific menus. Most food and beverages aboard are included in the cruise fare.

Also on this deck, Disney Discovery Reef offers a different atmosphere, inspired by “The Little Mermaid” and “Finding Nemo” with dominant ocean blue tones and coral reef decorations. Characters Nemo and Dory are integrated into the décor. During daytime, natural light floods the area from the upper deck, whilst at night, soft lighting creates a bioluminescent sea effect. The ambience is notably calmer than the bustling Marvel Landing. Food kiosks such as Cosmic Kebabs and Bewitching Boba and Brews are available, with the latter selling bubble tea from Chinese brand Naisnow at approximately 7.75 US dollars per drink.

Town Square serves as the indoor activity hub on Deck 6, centred around Royal Court, a large reception space adorned with gold décor. The area features a small stage and giant screens used for Disney character performances.
