ESSA Group, through its subsidiary PT Panca Amara Utama, has successfully obtained the PROPER award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) with a Green ranking. This accolade is given as recognition of the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management. The award was handed over directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of the Environmental Management Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

HSE Manager of Panca Amara Utama, Habibi Rahmawan, explained that in implementing sustainability principles, the company applies a liquid nitrogen injection process during startup, which reduces carbon emissions.

“There, we cut the time by more than 10 hours and avoided 4,800 tons of carbon emissions per year,” he stated to CNBC Indonesia.

He noted that this award serves as both recognition and a reminder of the commitment and consistency in applying sustainable industry practices.

“For us, this award is not just appreciation, but a journey in implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), where we not only comply but go beyond compliance on that,” Habibi emphasised.

He affirmed that moving forward, Panca Amara Utama will focus on two main pillars: social and economic innovation. In this regard, innovation is not only carried out in operations but also impacts society.

For information, the PROPER award is routinely held as an effort to increase corporate compliance with environmental regulations. The award is given using several parameters and serves as a public disclosure programme for environmental performance assessment.

This programme is complementary and can synergise with other compliance instruments. With this programme, efforts to improve environmental quality can be carried out more efficiently and effectively.

The PROPER assessment criteria are divided into two categories: compliance and beyond compliance criteria. Compliance criteria are based on the company’s efforts in fulfilling several aspects, including control of water pollution, maintenance of water sources, control of air pollution, management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), management of non-B3 waste, management of B3, control of land damage, and waste management. Meanwhile, beyond compliance criteria are more dynamic as they are adjusted to technological developments, the application of best environmental management practices, and global environmental issues.
