InJourney strengthens domestic tourism to anticipate Middle East conflict fallout
Jakarta - InJourney, the state-owned holding company for aviation and tourism, is strengthening domestic tourism services to anticipate the impacts of Middle Eastern conflicts, which have resulted in flight adjustments and cancellations on several routes to Indonesia’s premier destinations, such as Bali.
According to reports from Ngurah Rai International Airport management in Denpasar, Bali, between Saturday, 28 February, and Wednesday, 4 March, a total of 35 international flights were cancelled due to airspace closures following the Middle East conflict.
“Flight cancellations and other disruptions will certainly have an impact – it is inevitable,” said Veronica H. Sisilia, Director of Commercial Operations at InJourney, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. “However, we believe the tourism sector is sufficiently resilient, and domestic tourism remains strong.”
Sisilia, commonly known as Tata, expressed continued optimism that Indonesia’s aviation and tourism sectors will sustain growth amid current geopolitical uncertainties.
This confidence is underpinned by the convergence of extended holiday periods in Q1 2026, including the Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 holidays, Lunar New Year, Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri, and Nyepi, which are expected to drive domestic tourism activity.
“The tourism sector will certainly be affected by various factors – energy price volatility, exchange rate fluctuations, and so forth,” Sisilia acknowledged. “However, we still project continued growth in inbound tourists in 2025, with December closures reaching approximately 14.4 per cent. We remain hopeful that domestic tourism will remain strong.”
To this end, InJourney has prepared attractive offerings and services across its various business segments to ensure that the upcoming extended holiday periods for Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi proceed smoothly, notwithstanding the impacts of global conflicts.
“As a service provider, we want everyone to enjoy the Eid holiday with joy – to visit family, travel with loved ones, fly by aeroplane, and so forth. That is our priority in the current situation,” Sisilia said.
