InJourney Hospitality's Strategy to Navigate Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi in Bali
Bali is predicted to remain a primary draw for domestic tourists during the extended March 2026 holiday period, following a rare convergence when Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah falls close to Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year (Saka 1948).
In response to this phenomenon, PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN), trading as InJourney Hospitality, has prepared a series of operational strategies to ensure guest accommodation experiences remain optimal despite outdoor activity restrictions during Nyepi. The company operates seven properties in Bali, part of its 40-hotel portfolio across 15 provinces.
InJourney Hospitality’s Chief Executive Officer, Christine Hutabarat, revealed that Bali hotel occupancy rates are projected to reach 64 per cent. Overall, the group’s hotel portfolio occupancy across Indonesia during the 2026 Eid period is estimated to reach 63 per cent.
This figure represents a 10 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025. Christine noted that the combination of Eid holidays, Nyepi, and government-mandated shared leave policies has become a positive catalyst for domestic tourism sector growth in the first quarter of this year.
“We are preparing buffer stocks of food and beverages amounting to 20 to 30 per cent. All operational requirements must be secured before Nyepi because guests cannot leave the hotel and outdoor activities are severely restricted,” Christine explained in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
To pamper guests spending isolated time within hotels during Nyepi, InJourney Hospitality has launched several thematic packages, including specially curated dining programmes, fitness services such as yoga and boxing, and relaxation facilities. This strategy responds to current traveller trends, where guests increasingly prefer short getaways with activities centred within hotel premises.
Public enthusiasm for utilising this two-week extended holiday is already evident from strong early booking reservations. Besides Bali, Yogyakarta has also become a highly sought destination for travellers spending time with their families.
Through strengthened cross-unit coordination and seasonal staff augmentation, InJourney Hospitality is committed to maintaining seamless 24-hour service during this period of significant religious observance.
