Jakarta — State-owned aviation and tourism holding company PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero), known as InJourney, partnered with Pandawara Group to conduct a beach clean-up at Kelan Beach in Bali as part of its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism.

InJourney’s Director of Human Resources and Digital, Herdy Harman, said the company also invited stakeholders from across sectors to work together in raising awareness of waste issues and environmental conservation as a foundation for sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

“Beach Clean Up Day is a tangible manifestation of InJourney’s commitment to addressing the systemic problem of waste,” Herdy said in a statement on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

He emphasised that waste and environmental problems cannot be resolved by any single party alone.

“Through the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and cross-sector collaboration, we believe every element — from the government, industry players, communities, to the general public — has an important role in delivering sustainable solutions,” he said.

Herdy explained that the activity involved various parties including InJourney Group employees, the Badung Regency Government, the Badung Environmental Agency, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Police, airport stakeholders and partners including the airport authority, customs, immigration and quarantine, as well as local communities and pupils from SD Negeri 3 Tuban primary school.

“This cross-element collaboration reflects the spirit of gotong royong in maintaining Bali’s premier tourist destinations,” he said.

During the clean-up, volunteers collected more than 2.25 tonnes of waste, comprising approximately 2.1 tonnes of organic waste and 153 kilogrammes of inorganic waste. The effort not only created a cleaner and more pleasant beach environment but also contributed to a potential carbon emission reduction of up to 0.87 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, representing a concrete step in preserving the natural environment.

Kelan Beach, located approximately five kilometres south of the runway at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, is a popular destination for tourists to enjoy sunset views against the backdrop of aircraft taking off and landing.

Meanwhile, Pandawara Group member Gilang Rahma expressed appreciation for the collaboration, saying that the day’s activities demonstrated the power of cooperation across all layers of society. Collective awareness of waste issues is growing stronger and becoming an important foundation for sustainability, he said.
