JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Volvo Cars Indonesia officially launched the ES90 in the country. The Volvo flagship electric vehicle is being prepared to enter the Indonesian market. However, in the initial phase, the number of units available remains limited.

Heryanto Djayaputra, GM Sales & Operational of Volvo Cars Indonesia, said Indonesia had only eight units allocated for the first shipments.

“The Volvo ES90 CBU Malaysia, Indonesia only gets eight units for this month. In the future we will receive a larger quota for a longer period,” Heryanto said, when met in Central Jakarta, Thursday (5/3/2026).

He added that the delivery of the units is scheduled to begin from late April to early May.

Meanwhile, Volvo Cars Indonesia Corporate Planning, Ilham Suryo Aldianto, assessed that the premium electric vehicle market in Indonesia still has considerable potential.

“We see that even for premium EVs, especially with the segment we are continuing from the S90, we can feel the penetration is quite high,” Ilham said.

According to Ilham, the ES90 has a unique position in the market as an electric sedan with a different character compared to other models in similar segments.

“Because besides being an EV sedan that we can say is a class of its own, it can also meet the needs of Indonesians who usually want an SUV,” Ilham said.

He explained that the large body size and consistently high ground clearance keep the ES90 relevant to Indonesian consumer preferences, who tend to like tall vehicles.

“This size is still large, the ground clearance remains high,” he said.

“So we see this market and also we see Volvo’s line-up moving forward that Indonesia is one of Volvo’s main targets to develop its EV line-up as well,” Ilham added.
