Inhu Police Organise Running Race in Traditional Tanjak: Preserving Culture and Preventing Wild Racing
The Indragiri Hulu Police Force (Inhu) organised a running race titled Rengat Night Run, Run With Tanjak Go Sprint Go Green. The running race also served as an effort to preserve culture.
“This is a 100-metre evening running sports activity that promotes the preservation of Malay culture through the use of tanjak and an environmental awareness campaign in the spirit of Green Policing,” said Inhu Police Chief AKBP Era Ariandy Putra on Monday (2 March 2026).
The running race was held on Saturday (28 February) at 20:30 WIB on Bupati Tulus Street in front of Rengat Plaza. The event was attended by the Inhu Regent and officials, as well as members of the Inhu Regional Representative Council.
The running race was organised to facilitate young people in positive activities. The running race also aimed to prevent illegal street racing activities that endanger and can disrupt public security and order (kamtibmas) and safety, security, order, and traffic flow (kamseltibcarlantas).
“Creating a space for positive activities for young people as an alternative to addressing potential negative activities in the evening, including illegal racing and public order disturbances,” he said.
The activity was also expected to increase community presence and trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri), particularly the Traffic Unit, through a humanistic and persuasive approach among the community.
The activity also provided a space for conveying appeals to all parties to maintain public security and order by increasing legal awareness and traffic discipline.
“The establishment of synergy between the Indragiri Hulu Police Force, Regional Government, and related stakeholders in supporting community development programmes based on culture and environmental care (Green Policing),” he said.
