Information Commission commits to educating public on waste sorting movement
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Information Commission (KI) is committed to ensuring that transparency and the dissemination of information through education serve as the key to the success of the Waste Sorting from the Source Movement, aiming for a broad impact on society.
“The awareness to sort waste will not grow without education and information that is easily accessible to the public,” said the Chairman of the Jakarta Information Commission, Harry Ara Hutpendoro, during a socialisation session regarding Jakarta Governor Instruction Number 5 of 2024 concerning the Waste Sorting from the Source Movement at RSUD Cipayung in Jakarta, on Thursday.
He noted that the issue of waste can no longer be viewed solely as the responsibility of the government.
He stated that the success of waste management depends heavily on the awareness and participation of the community to begin sorting waste starting from homes, workplaces, and public service facilities.
According to him, the waste problem cannot be solved by the government alone, but is the responsibility of all Jakarta residents.
Meanwhile, the Director of RSUD Cipayung, Dr Agustina, appreciated the material presented, noting that it not only increased insight but also served as motivation for the staff at RSUD Cipayung to become more active in implementing a waste sorting culture within the hospital environment.
This effort is considered aligned with the hospital’s commitment to creating a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly healthcare service environment.
This socialisation serves as a reminder that waste management is not just the responsibility of cleaning staff or the government, but a shared responsibility that must begin within one’s own workplace.
She expressed hope that education regarding waste sorting can continue sustainably so that it becomes an ingrained culture for both employees and the public visiting RSUD Cipayung.
“In this way, the hospital will not only function as a healthcare service facility but can also contribute to supporting the movement for waste reduction and environmental preservation in Jakarta,” she said.
