Jakarta, Feb 16 (ANTARA) - Minister of Communications and Information M. Nuh called on the Indonesian public here on Monday to prefer using domestic IT products including computers and laptops.

"This is important as a real effort to reduce potential lay-offs," he said.

He said there was no other way of reducing lay-offs than increasing consumption and purchase of domestic products including IT products whose market was mostly dominated by imported products.

He said it was already time for boosting the domestic industry and using their products.

"It does not mean that we are xenophobe but we wish to optimize the use of our own products as other countries that used to be our consumers are also facing difficulties as a result of current financial crisis," he said.

In view of that he said efforts to increase use of domestic products were acts of safeguarding the nation's economy.

With regard to buy Indonesian campaign the government has already issued a number of regulations to support it. "However whatever regulations are produced if the people are not conscious of it they will be useless," he said.

He said it was time to change the paradigm that quality and branded products were always imported products while domestic products were always poor. (*)
