Industry Minister: Industrialisation Needs Support from Regional Governments
Surabaya – Indonesia’s Industry Minister, Muhammad Sarmuji, said industrial estates are an effective way to promote industrialisation. He said the key to developing them was support from regional governments in preparing land and infrastructure.
“Industrial estates are actually a good way to drive industrialisation because they offer a complete package. They just need support from regional governments to prepare the infrastructure, land and other requirements,” Sarmuji told reporters at Gedung Negara Grahadi in Surabaya on Monday (12 October 2026).
Asked about the possibility of building industrial estates in East Java, Sarmuji said this would depend on the potential of each area. “It will depend on which areas have the potential to become industrial estates,” he said.
Sarmuji made the remarks after receiving the gold Jer Basuki Mawa Beya medal from the East Java Provincial Government.
The award was presented by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa during a ceremony marking the province’s 81st anniversary. The provincial government recognised Sarmuji for his dedication to developing East Java.
Sarmuji also praised the performance of the East Java Provincial Government. He said data presented by Governor Khofifah showed that development in the province was progressing well, with economic growth above the national average and the highest in Java.
“That shows the provincial government’s tremendous hard work. Congratulations to East Java on reaching its 81st anniversary, and on its achievements, which continue to improve,” Sarmuji said.
He regarded the award as an assessment by the governor and her team of his contributions over the years.
“I am grateful for this award. As an East Java resident, it is already extraordinary to feel that the governor and her team have taken notice of me. The fact that they have followed my journey so far is an honour in itself. This will motivate me to do better,” he said.
