Industries must strengthen policies for preventing and managing sexual violence
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Department of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) of the Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI Jakarta) believes that companies, industries, state-owned enterprises, universities, and organisations need to formulate and strengthen internal policies within their institutions regarding the prevention and handling of sexual violence.
“This is expected to build a safe, confidential, easily accessible, and victim-centred reporting mechanism,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Department, Dwi Oktavia, during a seminar on “No Excuse for Abuse: Implementation of the Policy on Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) in Jakarta,” on Wednesday.
Furthermore, companies and organisations are also expected to provide guarantees of protection within their respective institutions for reporters and victims against all forms of intimidation, and to promote a work culture that is mutually respectful and has integrity.
This is necessary considering that, to date, many female workers in both the formal and informal sectors still face the risk of physical, verbal, psychological, sexual violence, and exploitation.
In January 2026, a total of 85 cases of violence against adult women in Jakarta were recorded and handled by the Centre for Women and Child Protection (PPPA). This figure is higher than the 76 cases recorded in December 2025.
Dwi said that the quality of human resources is becoming increasingly important in the context of Jakarta’s transformation into an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable global city.
This includes ensuring that all those involved in the development of Jakarta receive protection and guarantees against various risks, so that they feel safe.
According to her, a global city is one that upholds the values of human rights, gender equality, and the principle of zero tolerance for all forms of violence, including sexual exploitation and harassment.
