Industrial Sector Haunted by Global Energy Crisis Impacts, Government Urged to Take These Steps
The government has been reminded to heighten vigilance against the potential domino effects of the global energy crisis, which is beginning to spread to the domestic industrial sector. Concrete steps must be taken to mitigate this issue. Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission XII, Shanty Alda Nathalia, highlighted that the current global energy dynamics are not only impacting oil and gas price fluctuations but are also starting to exert ongoing pressure on the industrial sector that relies on energy as a primary raw material. “The current global energy dynamics are not only affecting oil and gas prices but are also beginning to show subsequent impacts on the industrial sector that depends on energy as raw material. This situation needs to be closely monitored because it has the potential to affect the stability of supply and the sustainability of domestic industrial production, such as the plastics industry and other sectors,” Shanty stated in her remarks on Sunday, 5 April 2026. She emphasised that in this context, the issue of energy resilience needs to be viewed more comprehensively, not limited only to the availability of fuel oil (BBM) and gas. “In this context, Commission XII views that the issue of energy resilience does not stop at the availability of BBM and gas, but also encompasses the ability to maintain supply continuity for a broader industrial sector,” she continued. Furthermore, Shanty also highlighted the importance of data transparency and strengthening a more integrated national energy monitoring system. This is deemed crucial so that the government can take responsive steps against rapidly changing global dynamics. “We also emphasise the importance of data transparency and a more integrated monitoring system, so that the government can respond quickly and accurately to potential pressures developing in the energy sector and its derivatives,” she asserted. Commission XII of the House of Representatives urges the government to take anticipatory steps, including strengthening cross-sectoral coordination and ensuring the readiness of industries to face potential future energy supply disruptions. With increasing global uncertainty, appropriate mitigation steps are seen as key to maintaining the stability of the national industrial sector and the sustainability of Indonesia’s economic growth.
