Industrial Education Tourism Is Projected to Create New Jobs
PT Grahabuana Cikarang, the operator of the Jababeka industrial estate, has officially announced a new strategic direction for developing the 5,200-hectare area. Ivonne Anggraini, President Director of PT Grahabuana Cikarang, explained that Jababeka is now transforming into Indonesia’s first Industrial Tourism City. This marks a paradigm shift from a purely manufacturing zone to an integrated destination that combines industry, housing, education and tourism within an Asia-scale ecosystem. Ivonne Anggraini said the economic potential of Jababeka is massive, noting that the area is home to more than 2,000 multinational companies from around the world. Ivonne emphasised that Jababeka is no longer merely a production site but has grown into a dynamic autonomous city. “We see that, of course, we are an industrial destination so that Jabodeka becomes a place where they make not only an industrial city, but a city of a size for Asia, because we here also have hotels, golf, so everything is already in place for education as well,” she said at Menara Batavia (6/3). The integration of industry and tourism is also supported by comprehensive property infrastructure. Through the concept of the “Factory of Dignity”, Jababeka aims to open access for the education world to see directly the creativity inside the factory. She added that this development is not just a matter of selling property, but selling innovations. “Why do we open the Jabodeka Family Hotel area? It is not about selling; we are not selling at all. We are selling innovations and also participants who are affordable because not all factories sell directly, but some may become new positions later as the Jabodeka sales hub,” she explained. In line with this vision, Bekasi Regency’s Acting Head of Tourism, Andri Julianto, welcomed the transformation as a momentum for regional economic revival. The Industrial City Tourism program is seen as a concept of a creative economy that leverages factory potential as an edu-tourism attraction. Andri said the move would have broad economic impacts by creating new jobs. He further stressed that Bekasi’s world-class infrastructure is a key asset for international competition and that government-private sector synergy is essential for the program’s success. “I am confident that we invite government interests, industry players, academics, media and the public to work together to build this program for everyone’s benefit,” he said.
