Indri gets Rp 10m from Wismoyo
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Sri Indriyani, who retained her
title at the Junior Weightlifting World Championship in Capetown
last week, received a Rp 10 million (US$4,100) savings account
from National Sports Council chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar
yesterday.
Indriyani, nicknamed Indri, won three gold medals after
setting records in the snatch with a 75.5 kilogram lift, a 0.5
kilogram improvement on her previous best.
The 18-year-old lifted 97.5 kilograms in the clean and jerk
for a 172.5 kilogram total.
"I don't expect presents. I'm just expecting more attention
and support from Wismoyo so I can do better in the future," Indri
said.
"Please don't accept it as a bonus. It is a matter of
appreciation for your success on the world scene," Wismoyo said.
Wismoyo, through his wife, also presented gold bracelets to
Indri and Imron Rosadi's wife. Imron is the national coach who
prepared Indri for the world championship.
Indri said after the championship she would prepare for the
19th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Jakarta in October.
"I only won the silver at the last Games in Chiang Mai,
Thailand. I lost to a Thai lifter and want to better my record in
the coming Games," she said.
But Indri said she was still in the dark as to who her rivals
would be.
Imron said the bonus from the council would help motivate
Indri.
"I can't guarantee that Indri can win the gold at the SEA
Games because we don't have records from other ASEAN lifters.
It's possible that other country's lifters could lift more," he
said.
Wismoyo said he was satisfied with Indri's achievements at the
championship.
"It's proof that weightlifting has a good chance of being a
potential gold medal sport for Indonesia, along with badminton,
at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. I'm very proud of her
records," he said.
Another junior lifter Joko Hanggono, accompanied by coach
Harry Wibowo, will compete also in Capetown today in the 108
kilogram plus event. (yan)
