Indramayu Police Deny Breaking Suspect's Leg in Family Murder Case
The trial of the case involving the murder of an entire family in Paoman Ward, Indramayu District, West Java, has drawn widespread public attention. This follows the circulation of conflicting information on social media. One point of focus is the defendant’s statement to journalists claiming that his leg was broken by investigators and that he was coerced into confessing to the murder.
Misleading information includes the designation of suspects for the two perpetrators, now defendants, namely Ririn Rifanto and Bagus Priyo Setiawan. Additionally, another highlighted issue is the measured firm actions taken by officers against the defendants during the arrest process.
To clarify this information, the Indramayu Police Resort has spoken out. The Head of Criminal Investigation at Indramayu Police Resort, AKP Muchammad Arwin, at the Indramayu Police Station on Thursday (7/5/2026), denied any violence during the examination of the two suspects.
Arwin emphasised that no officers broke the suspects’ legs during the investigation process. The injuries suffered by the perpetrators resulted from measured firm actions during the field arrest.
Previously, Ririn and Priyo had fled for a week, moving between locations from Bogor, Semarang, to Pasuruan, before finally returning to Indramayu. During the arrest attempt, Arwin continued, the perpetrators resisted officers by pushing them. Additionally, the perpetrators attempted to flee again.
This situation forced officers to take measured firm action by firing two warning shots downward. Since it was not heeded, officers fired a paralysing shot that hit the perpetrators’ calf.
“After the arrest, the police continued to prioritise the humanitarian aspect by providing medical treatment to both perpetrators at Indramayu General Hospital,” he explained.
In the examination process of Ririn and Priyo as suspects, Arwin guaranteed that their legal rights were fulfilled, namely receiving assistance from a legal advisor named Ruslandi.
“During that process, it is ensured that there was no coercion, intimidation, or physical violence experienced by the perpetrators,” Arwin stated.
Arwin also invited all parties to respect the ongoing trial process at the Indramayu District Court. Additionally, to collectively monitor and respect whatever the final decision of the trial is.
