Agriculture Minister and Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Amran Sulaiman expressed gratitude that Indonesia’s rice stock has broken records, marking the highest in history. Amran inspected the rice piles owned by Bulog at the Bulog warehouse in JDP Karawang 1 Logistic Park on Thursday (23/4/2026).

The warehouse is privately owned and leased by Bulog to store government rice reserves (CBP), in line with the abundant domestic stock. Amran was accompanied by Bulog’s President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani during the visit.

Amran emphasised that as of the morning of 23 April 2026, the total national rice stock had exceeded 5 million tonnes, a figure never seen before.

“The first thing we convey is, Alhamdulillah. Today, 23 April 2026, now at 8:55 (WIB), the rice stock across Indonesia is 5,198,000 tonnes (data updated to 5,001,198 tonnes). This is the first time; it has never happened throughout history. This is the first in history. This is the result of all our hard work,” Amran told reporters at the location.

The abundance of stock has required Bulog to lease additional warehouses in various regions. One of them is in Karawang, which is now almost full.

“We are at the warehouse… this is a leased warehouse, the total capacity here alone, in the Karawang area and surroundings, we have leased (for stock) 102,000 tonnes, which is already filled with 80,000 tonnes, possibly in the next two weeks it will be full again,” he said.

Nationally, Amran revealed that Bulog has leased warehouses with capacity up to millions of tonnes to anticipate the stock surge. The limited capacity of Bulog’s own warehouses and the abundant supply are the main reasons for this step.

“We have leased warehouses across Indonesia for 2 million tonnes. Bulog’s warehouse capacity is only 3 million tonnes, now we have leased 2 million tonnes, and now it’s full with 800,000 tonnes left, and we have leased again approximately 1 million tonnes capacity. So, it will be 6 million tonnes,” he explained.

With the abundant stock condition, the government is optimistic that Indonesia no longer needs to import rice, at least to meet this year’s rice needs. Amran even called this achievement the result of cross-sector collaboration in maintaining national food production and supply.

“Alhamdulillah, we did not import in 2025, Insyaallah no import in 2026. We pray for each other, we collaborate, Insyaallah no rice import in 2026, our reserves are the highest in history in April,” he concluded.
