Indonesia’s oil production is set to begin rising in 2025, according to the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Activities (SKK Migas). The rise is underpinned by the operation of two major projects, Terubuk-Forel and Banyu Urip Infill Clastic.

Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, Deputy for Exploration, Development and Management of Working Areas at SKK Migas, said that national oil production in 2025 successfully reached the government’s target of 605,000 barrels per day (bpd).

“Allow me to begin with the production journey. Last year, 2025, we achieved the target of 605,000 barrels per day. I would like to express my appreciation to all participants and kindly ask you to give them a round of applause,” Rikky said at IPA Convex 2026, on Friday 22 May 2026.

He noted that the achievement was due in part to the Terubuk-Forel project, which yields around 20,000 barrels per day, and the Banyu Urip Infill Clastic project, which adds about 30,000 barrels per day.

“Why we could reach the target is because we have two major projects at present: Terubuk-Forel with production of 20,000 barrels per day and Banyu Urip Infill Clastic with production of 30,000 barrels per day. That is why we are increasing our production,” he said.

Looking ahead to 2026, Rikky said that together with oil and gas contractors operating under cooperation agreements (KKKS), they have prepared a work programme and budget since the end of 2025 to pursue a government-set production target of 610,000 barrels per day.

Rikky indicated that to support the target, SKK Migas has approved a drilling programme comprising 832 development wells and 39 exploration wells to be carried out by 157 oil and gas contractors.

“So we are finalising and granting approvals to all parties, for 157 contractors. This is our target,” he said.
