Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, particularly the war involving Israel, the United States and Iran, has begun to directly impact global fuel price increases, including in the Southeast Asian (ASEAN) region.

Several countries in Southeast Asia have increased fuel prices in early March, following the outbreak of the Israel-Iran war, compared to before the conflict began.

According to Aljazeera on Tuesday (17 March 2026), numerous Southeast Asian nations have raised fuel prices, particularly for RON 95 petrol, following the outbreak of the Israel-US and Iran war on 28 February 2026.

The fuel price increases are linked to the surge in global crude oil prices. On 27 February 2026, before the war erupted, Brent crude oil was trading at US$72.48 per barrel and WTI at US$67.02 per barrel.

Following the outbreak of war on 28 February 2026, global oil prices surged sharply. By 16 March 2026, Brent crude oil reached US$105.84 per barrel and WTI hit US$100.37 per barrel.

Fuel Prices in Indonesia

Meanwhile, fuel prices at Indonesian petrol stations currently do not yet reflect conditions following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East. Current fuel prices at petrol stations are effective from 1 March 2026, taking into account oil price movements during the previous two months, exchange rate assumptions for the rupiah against the US dollar, and the Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS).

The impact of the current surge in global oil prices is likely only to become apparent in non-subsidised fuel prices from 1 April 2026. Indonesia adjusts non-subsidised fuel prices on the 1st of each month.

Subsidised fuel prices remain unchanged through March 2026, with Pertalite (RON 90) at Rp10,000 per litre and subsidised diesel at Rp6,800 per litre.
