The Financial Services Authority (OJK) records that the assets under management (AUM) of mutual funds reached Rp1,084 trillion as of March 2026. Despite this, their contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is considered not yet significant.

Sujanto, Director of Supervision and Investment Management 1 at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), stated that the value of mutual fund assets grew by 3.97% compared to the position in December 2025. Nevertheless, the value is said to be disproportionate to GDP.

“But it turns out that in terms of GDP, this is only (contributing) 4%. If we compare with neighbouring countries, Thailand is 30% of GDP, Malaysia 36% of GDP. So there is still a lot of disparity, there is still a lot that can actually be pursued,” Sujanto explained during a journalist education session at the Indonesia Stock Exchange building in Jakarta on Monday (20/4/2026).

In terms of the number of investors, mutual fund investors reached 23.5 million as of March 2026. This figure increased from 19.2 million in December 2025, or grew 8.14% annually.

Interestingly, 54% of mutual fund investors come from the under-30 age group. This indicates the dominance of the younger generation in the domestic mutual fund investment market.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia’s population reaches 287 million people. Of that number, around 196 million are the productive age group of 15-64 years.

“That means compared to the earlier 23 million, there is still a lot of opportunity to pursue making that productive group become investors, there is still a lot of potential,” he added.

OJK also emphasises the importance of financial education and literacy to encourage public participation. The mutual fund industry is considered accessible with small capital, even starting from Rp10,000 for beginner investors.
