Indonesia's Maritime Sector Records Rp136.3 Trillion in Investment During Q1 2025
Indonesia's maritime sector recorded a substantial investment realisation of Rp136.3 trillion throughout the first quarter of 2025, underscoring the importance of the maritime industry to the national economy.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Todotua Pasaribu said the maritime industry is one of the most promising sectors for attracting investment as the country pursues 8% economic growth with a target investment value of Rp1,900 trillion over the next five years.
"We have recorded that Indonesia's maritime industry contributed Rp136.3 trillion in investment realisation out of the total Q1 2025 investment realisation of Rp465 trillion," Todotua said at the Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 event, as quoted on Tuesday (27/5/2025).
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, through the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), is currently targeting investment and strategic cooperation in the maritime sector with Australia and China.
Todotua explained that Indonesia is targeting Australia as it lies along the Indonesian Archipelagic Sea Lane (ALKI) II, a shipping route traversing the Sulawesi Sea through the Makassar Strait, Flores Sea, and Lombok Strait to the Indian Ocean, and vice versa. The route covers the waters of the Sulawesi Sea, Makassar Strait, Lombok Strait and Lombok Sea. Trade along this southern route also accounts for 60% of Australia's trade.
In addition, Indonesia is offering Chinese companies investment opportunities in its fisheries sector, encompassing development of storage facilities through to production.
Indonesia's maritime sector contributes 7% to national gross domestic product (GDP) and holds significant potential to drive the ASEAN maritime industry forward. The IMW 2025 event reinforces Indonesia's ambition to become a leading global maritime hub.
Indonesia Maritime Week 2025, the country's largest maritime exhibition, was officially held at the JCC Senayan in Jakarta from Monday (26/5/2025) to Wednesday (28/5/2025). The inaugural exhibition aims to promote Indonesia as a member state of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the global maritime body under the United Nations.
IMW 2025 is a strategic initiative of the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Indonesian National Shipowners Association (INSA), PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), and PT Pelindo (Persero).
