Indonesia`s March CPI up 8.17 pct from year earlier, more than forecast

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's consumer price index (CPI) in March rose 0.95 percent from February and was up 8.17 percent from a year ago led by food prices, an official said Tuesday.

The rise in the CPI was bigger than analysts had expected.

Ten economists polled by Thomson Financial News were expecting that CPI in March would rise by 7.37 percent to 7.63 percent from a year earlier.

Month-on-month, the forecast was for a rise of 0.21 percent to 0.5 percent.

CPI in February was up 0.65 percent from the previous month and rose 7.4 percent year-on-year.

Fresh food prices in March were up 1.44 percent from February while prices of processed food, beverages and tobacco rose 1.08 percent, deputy chairman of the Central Bureau of Statistics Ali Rosidi was quoted by Thomson Financial as saying.
