Indonesia's Longest Name: Shinggudinggazhanggaree Jaudingginaderaenivatearathus Mauradhuttamazhazhilazu'art
The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has released unique data regarding the longest name in Indonesia. Ditjen Dukcapil Director General Teguh Setyabudi revealed that according to the Clean Population Data (DKB) for the second semester of 2025, the longest name in 2025 contains 79 characters: Shinggudinggazhanggaree Jaudingginaderaenivatearathus Mauradhuttamazhazhilazu’art.
Teguh stated that this longest name in Indonesia does not comply with the provisions of Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation No. 73 of 2022, which limits the number of characters on population documents (e-KTP/family card) to a maximum of 60 characters, including spaces.
He explained that the longest name in Indonesia was entered before the issuance of Regulation 73/2022. “Additionally, names that are too long do not fit in the e-KTP or family card column and have the potential to be truncated in the database or cause errors in service applications,” Teguh clarified whilst presenting the Clean Population Data for the second semester of 2025 at Hotel Bidakara in South Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Teguh cautioned that such long names can also trigger name discrepancies between population documents and other documents, such as passports, diplomas, or bank books, which can potentially complicate public service administration.
Meanwhile, the shortest names recorded consist of just a single letter, such as M, D, C, N, J, Q, and V, each with one person. The oldest registered resident is Maryam, born in 1907 in Bangkalan, at 118 years of age.
Teguh stated that in the context of demography and population registration, the elderly are not merely a vulnerable group but rather guardians of values and indicators of development success. “The increasing number of elderly people, especially those who are healthy and independent, indicates success in increasing life expectancy and improving health quality,” said Teguh.
