Indonesia’s export performance at the beginning of 2026 demonstrated an increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia’s export value in January 2026 at $22.16 billion. This figure increased 3.39% compared to January 2025, which was recorded at $21.43 billion.

The export increase was primarily driven by growth in non-mineral commodity exports, whilst petroleum exports experienced a decline.

By contrast, petroleum exports were recorded at $891.8 million, a decrease of 15.62% from the same period in the previous year, which stood at $1.06 billion.

The decline in petroleum exports was primarily triggered by reduced natural gas exports and the absence of crude oil exports in January 2026.

Natural gas exports fell 19.95% to $470.2 million, whilst crude oil exports experienced a 100% decline. Meanwhile, refined petroleum product exports increased 5.76% to $421.6 million.

Based on BPS data, among the ten commodities with the largest non-mineral export values in January 2026, animal and vegetable fats and oils recorded the highest increase at $987.3 million, or 46.05% compared to January 2025.

The export value of this commodity reached $3.13 billion and contributed 14.72% to total non-mineral exports in January 2026.

Additionally, several other commodities also recorded export increases.

On the other hand, several major commodities experienced declining export values. The largest decline occurred in mineral fuels, falling $330.5 million or 11.85% compared to January 2025.

Furthermore, exports of precious metals and jewellery or gemstones also declined $99.6 million or 11.63%. Meanwhile, iron and steel exports fell slightly by $2.8 million or 0.13%.

Overall, these ten major commodities contributed 66.17% of Indonesia’s total non-mineral exports in January 2026. The export value of this commodity group also increased 11.30% compared to the same period in the previous year.
