Indonesia's Foreign Debt Reaches USD 434.7 Billion in January 2026 Amid Hormuz Strait Crisis
Bank Indonesia claimed that Indonesia’s foreign debt position remained stable in January 2026. Indonesia’s foreign debt position in January 2026 was recorded at USD 434.7 billion, growing 1.7 per cent annually. This figure was lower compared to the growth rate in December 2025 of 1.8 per cent. This development was particularly influenced by the public sector’s foreign debt.
Meanwhile, China emphasised that it has sufficient energy resources as the Iran conflict limits oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. However, on the other hand, US President Donald Trump is pressing Beijing to help secure this important shipping route.
