Indonesia's Economy Grows 5.61 Percent in the First Quarter of 2026
Indonesia’s economy recorded a growth of 5.61 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, as reported by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on Tuesday (5/5/2026). This achievement surpassed the growth in the same period the previous year, which stood at 4.87 percent, driven by a significant contribution from the investment sector.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan P. Roeslani stated that the investment sector played a crucial role, contributing around 32 percent to the total growth. Citing Detik Finance, this contribution equates to approximately 1.8 percent of the total national economic growth.
“Alhamdulillah, this 5.61 percent economic growth shows that our economy is running very well and very positively. From the investment side, it contributes 32 percent of the total 5.61 percent growth, or about 1.8 percent,” said Rosan, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM.
This increase in the investment sector’s share is considered higher compared to historical trends, which typically hovered below 30 percent. Rosan emphasised this positive performance while at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Central Jakarta.
“Historically, investment has contributed around 28-29 percent. Alhamdulillah, now it’s 32 percent, so the economic growth in the first quarter has achieved very good results,” explained Rosan, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM.
BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti detailed the structure of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in nominal terms. In the first quarter of 2026, the GDP at current market prices reached Rp 6,187.2 trillion, while at constant prices it was recorded at Rp 3,447.7 trillion.
“Indonesia’s economy based on the gross domestic product size in the first quarter of 2026 at current market prices is Rp 6,187.2 trillion and at constant prices is Rp 3,447.7 trillion, so the economic growth of Indonesia in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the first quarter of 2025 or year-on-year grew 5.61 percent,” said Amalia, BPS Chief.
