Indonesia's Economy Grows 5.61% in Q1 2026, Highest in 14 Quarters
Indonesia’s economy surged in the first quarter of 2026. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that economic growth for Q1 2026 reached 5.61% year-on-year (yoy). This growth is the highest since Q3 2022 (5.73%), or the last 14 quarters. In nominal terms, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) based on constant prices broke through Rp3,447.7 trillion, while based on current prices it stood at Rp6,187.2 trillion. This economic growth is far higher than market projections, which estimated GDP growth at only 5.4%. Compared to the previous quarter (quarter-to-quarter/qtq), Indonesia’s economy contracted by 0.77% in the January-March 2026 period. BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the high economic growth in Q1 2026 was supported by domestic demand, particularly during the Eid al-Fitr moment. “From the business field perspective, all business fields grew positively except for mining and the provision of electricity and gas,” she said during a press conference today, Tuesday (5/5/2026).
