Indonesia's Craft Sector Begins to Dominate Global Market as Industry Minister Reveals Data
Jakarta, VIVA – Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has reported a significant surge in the export performance of the Small and Medium Industry (IKM) craft sector, serving as strong evidence that products from the sector are becoming increasingly competitive and capable of competing in the global market.
Data from the Ministry of Industry’s Data and Information Centre recorded that the value of craft exports in the third quarter of 2025 reached US$305.54 million, a significant leap compared to the previous quarter’s figure of US$173.5 million.
He acknowledged that this was also supported by government promotional and facilitation efforts, such as the Inacraft exhibition, which has been an important factor in strengthening the position of craft IKMs.
“The Ministry of Industry’s facilitation and guidance for IKMs represents an appreciation of and pride in domestic products, as well as an effort to open broader promotional opportunities for domestic IKMs,” said Agus in a statement on Monday, 16 February 2026.
As part of efforts to further boost the export performance of craft IKMs, the Ministry of Industry, through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (Ditjen IKMA), facilitated eight mentored IKMs to participate in the Inacraft 2026 Exhibition held at the Jakarta International Convention Center from 4 to 8 February 2026.
Agus expressed optimism that support for exhibitions and promotions would strengthen the competitiveness of national IKMs through expanded market access, strengthened branding, and the opening of partnership opportunities and sustainable business transactions.
“The selected IKM participants come from various regions across Indonesia, so the products on display not only represent the highest standards of quality and innovation from IKM practitioners but also reflect the richness and cultural diversity of the archipelago,” he said.
Director General of IKMA at the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, explained that the eight facilitated IKMs were Karya Seni Tanduk, Lampung Ethnica, Manika Kaltim, Ragenda MOP Jewelry, Khyang Leather, Shamara, Kalaniwood, and D’moroy.
The products on display included horn crafts, accessories, pearl jewellery, bags made from natural fibre and leather, fashion and woven textile products, as well as crafts made from wood waste that support environmental sustainability.
“The Directorate General of IKMA facilitated the provision of booths located within a single island. We hope that with this support, IKMs will be able to harness all their potential by recording high sales and strengthening their position in national and global markets through market expansion,” said Reni.
