Indonesia's Baznas establishes emergency classrooms in Gaza
Baznas Head Sodik Mudjahid said the initiative reflects the agency’s commitment to ensuring children’s access to education in emergency situations.
“We want children in Gaza to continue accessing safe learning spaces. These classroom tents are expected to help them keep studying despite the difficulties,” he said in a press release on Sunday.
Despite limitations, he said the makeshift classrooms are equipped with desks and chairs to support learning and also provide psychosocial support.
Mudjahid expressed gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for supporting the program.
He also thanked the Indonesian public for contributing donations that made the initiative possible.
Zeina Al Motawaq, an eight-year-old elementary student, said the tents have made studying more comfortable.
“It was very difficult before. We had to write while sitting on the floor, and our backs hurt. We are very grateful for the desks and chairs,” she said.
In addition to the classrooms, which can accommodate up to 100 children, Baznas also provided medical services and essential aid, including meals, clean water, clothing, blankets, and tents.
