Indonesia's Badminton Team Confirmed for Swiss Open 2026 After US–Israel–Iran Conflict
The Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) has confirmed that the national badminton team will depart for Basel, Switzerland, to compete in the Super 300 Swiss Open 2026. The confirmation came after concerns were raised about the conflict in the West Asia region. Secretary General of PBSI, Ricky Soebagdja, said the delegation is scheduled to leave Jakarta on Saturday 7 March 2026. The team will travel by Turkish Airlines to Europe.
“The Indonesian team departing from Jakarta to Switzerland is in a safe condition and ready to undertake the long journey,” Ricky said on Friday 6 March 2026, as reported by ANTARA.
The Indonesian badminton delegation is slated to fly in two separate flights. The first flight departs at 21:05 WIB, followed by the second at 23:45 WIB. Both groups will transit in Istanbul before continuing to Basel, the city hosting the tournament.
The conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has triggered disruptions to several international flight routes. Some flights to West Asian cities have been cancelled. Transit hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Istanbul were affected by the situation.
Despite reports of cancellations on several routes, PBSI stated that the Indonesian team’s departure schedule has not changed. The delegation will proceed with their journey as originally planned, with PBSI monitoring travel conditions and ensuring the departure process remains safe.
